Finely wrought matched pair of dining utensils in the Dutch version of the Hanover Pattern. They are both hallmarked with the 18th century Amsterdam city and silver guarantee marks, a maker's mark (RH) for Roelof Helweg , and the date mark letter V for 1780. Helweg was active in Amsterdam from 1776 - 1811. The are also stamped with a "second assay" marks of 1807, struck during the French Napoleonic occupation for taxation. A fine early solid silver set of knife rests made by the silversmith J. Weber in 19th century Olmutz in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now the city of Olomouc, in the Czech Republic. The form is a solid elongated oval bar, flanked by ball terminal X supports. These antique silver kniferests are fully and clearly hallmarked with the Austro-Hungarian 13 loth silver assay mark for the city of Olmutz (Tardy p.68), year 1840 and with the maker's mark - J. Stamped: A.C (within a rectangle); A (pellet) W (over)1890 (within a rectangle); (silver mark)84 (within a rectangle; Moscow mark of St George (see enlargements 6 & 7). The icon measures 3 3/8 inches by 2 3/4 inches by 3/8 inches. The icon depicts St. George slaying the dragon. His hand-painted likeness is beneath a silver plaque skillfully executed in repousse.
