An unusual wooden penwork floral picture, circa the late 18th or early 19th century. Women often made penwork boxes or pictures at home, using stylized floral motifs deriving from the Chinese. A piece of wood was varnished and then decorated with pen, then varnished again. This picture is lovely and rich in color and style. Miniature Eastlake design carved wood and upholstery sofa with 8 legs. It measures 20 1/4" long by 9 1/2" high by 6" deep. The wood has a mahogany reddish stain and the printed fabric is upholstery grade. The colors of the fabric are a beige background with blue and yellow stripes and red and green flowers. The condition is very good except for one side - see last photo. There is a crack in the wood on the one side and one leg. Otherwise, perfect. Great looking and quite unusual.....$15 for ins...
