A charming bit of rustic handicraft is this small snuff-box made of carefully built-up thin layers of serrated birch bark held in place by many tiny brass nails. Small cut-out circles reveal a surprise of blue underneath, and a trace of shiny brown at the base suggests that it was probably originally bound like that all around the top and bottom in that manner. Outstanding lacquer cocktail shaker set comprised of a three-part shaker, tray and six cocktail glasses. All are hand decorated in red, gold and silver with a scene of islands connected by an arched footbridge. Undoubtedly British, this string box in ebonized boxwood boasts a central band of fine trompe l’oeil beadwork that has a few stabilized flaws. All in all, it is in fine shape and is an excellent example of Victorian handicraft, and retains its ivory grommet at the string hole. Approximately 4-12 inches high and three inches in diameter.

Important to knitting and other needlework of days gone past was this sort of bowl to keep the yarn from rolling all over the place. This beautiful one is exquisitely turned of coromandel wood or calamander ebony. There a few minor chips around the rim, but overall it is in very fine condition. British, probably early to middle Nineteenth Century. Approximately two inches high and 3-1/4 inches in diameter.
