19th century aneroid desk barometer in a stunning ivory case raised on a turned pedestal and surmounted with a carved ivory bust depicting a young farm maiden. The carving is superbly done, with great attention to the girl's hair and 18th century-style lace-trimmed bonnet. Her face is charming. The ivory has a beautiful yellowed patina that has not been cleaned. The enameled dial is in French, but there is no maker's mark visible. This is the finest desk barometer we've ever seen.... A fine and very unusual Continental carved ivory figural parasol handle, c.1850. The tip of the handle, carved with a face wearing a headdress of grapes and grape leaves. The base of the handle which would join with the parasol is decorated with carved acanthus leafage. The piece has a fine old patina. Condition is very good with some minor natural stressing in the ivory, there are no breaks or losses. It measures 4 1/4" in height.

Two extraordinay beauties in Sienese Renaissance costumes are depicted in these highly detailed ivory chess figures. Both are about 4-1/4 inches in height, 1-3/4 wide and 7/8 of an inch deep. For stability they have been lightly attached to clear plastic plinthes. They are in excellent patinated condition. Italian, circa 1600.
