This silver gilt pectoral cross, measuring 3" x 2 7/8" portrays a crucifixion on the front and an apostle on the reverse. His name written in Greek, appears illegible (to me) above the figure. The painted figures are on gesso over wood, in icon style, and appear to be (Greek) Orthodox and probably mid to late 18th century. The reverse is missing its "cross" frame, although a shadow is visible where it once was. The painted cross insert is held in place with three red stones.
