This beautiful confection is completely sewn by hand, right down to the hand stitched seams, which are then whip stitched! The hand embroidery on this very fine linen lawn is very practiced and includes the rare padded center flowers embellished with a crossed design...( I can't remember the name of that stitch!) The 5" of lace at each end is bobbin/pillow lace with an insertion of needle lace. The center design is needle lace as well. Oh, there are eyelet slots on the two sides for running thr... This outstanding Bullseye quilt pattern is particular to the tiny town of Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania (Berks County). Fewer than a dozen are known and they were all made in the same tiny hamlet, the current population is which is 173.
Very finely quilted, appliqued and pieced. Colors are softened with washing. Slight wear to about half a dozen blocks is visible in thumbnails. In spite of that, it is one of the most unusual and dynamic quilts. Circa 1870; measures 93" x 102".

Very well made silk baby booties from an estate in San Francisco. The hand stitching is exquisite. Please note there is some light blue faded color on the bottom of the booties. I'm not sure why this is so. See photos. The silk is in excellent condition. Circa 1870.
