Detailed Mennonite applique quilt that is more "dressy" than most. Unique pattern that is very finely appliqued. Well quilted although the stitches do not show prominently on the patterned ground. Unwashed condition. Circa 1870. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin. Measures 82" x 86".

Exuberant and imaginative interpretation of a Stars and Stripes quilt. Pristine, unwashed condition. Quilted but no batting. Measures 76" x 80": Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin. Perhaps made to celebrate the Centennial. The stripes are a nice representation of many of the fabrics of the period.

Most certainly by an accomplished embroiderer, even the scalloped edges are covered with beautiful buttonhole stitches! The linen is fine,lightwight and drapey,and perfect but for the holes shown in photos 3 and 4. Priced as is, or hand mended for a fee. 31"

This strong Star Spangled Banner quilt is further emboldened by the use of solid color fabrics as well as the large size of the quilt. What is now a warm grey probably began as green. It has oxidized evenly and the color is very pleasing. The star motif is repeated in with LeMoyne stars in quilting. Sawtooth border is an excellent continuation of the triangles making up the stars. Unwashed condition. Measures 91" square; Ohio origin.

Stylized Baskets Quilt: Circa 1890; Pennsylvania

This unusual geometric quilt can be seen in several ways. Vertically, the large blocks look like giant Hourglass patterns. Horizontally, they look like stylized Baskets. In either case, it is an imaginative pattern, well executed. Unwashed condition with several minor age spots. Measures 70" x 82"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1890. A note pinned to the quilt says it was "pieced by Grandmother Haines - signed Grace Woodbury".

Bow Tie pattern quilt unusually set in Four Patch blocks. Great combination of vibrant colors gives this a harlequin feel. Unwashed condition. Bow Tie blocks are quilted in straight lines; the solid blocks are quilted with diagonal lines, all contributing to the sense of vibrancy and movement of the quilt. Measures 77" x 81"; circa 1910.

Fifteen Point Star Quilt: Circa 1880; Pennsylvania

It's difficult to say whether or not the maker of this Fifteen Point Lone Star Quilt set out to make this pattern or whether it got out of control. In either case, it is likely unique. It is interesting that five point stars surround the central image and the overall star essentially has five sides. So maybe this was all intentional? Unwashed, immaculate condition. Wonderful selection of fabrics. Measures 80" square; Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

Several slightly different printed fabrics used for the lighter areas. Backing fabric, shown in last thumbnail photo, is most likely home dyed. Measures 82" x 108". Circa 1850; Pennsylvania origin.
