Courthouse Steps Log Cabin with one of the most unusual borders I have seen. Not only is the Crazy pattern rare - in addition, the corners were made from a paisley shawl. The combination makes a stunning frame from an already wonderful pattern. Medium weight wools; excellent condition. Circa 1880; West Virginia origin. Measures 80" square.

Bold Barnraising Log Cabin quilt done with a combination of printed fabrics that are brilliantly placed to create numerous subtle sub-patterns. A square, for instance, is formed around the central red and yellow blocks. The lozenge printed brown fabric creates a stepped pattern within the overall diamond. Pristine, probably unwashed condition. Pieced Bars backing; Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1880; measures 84" square.

Very fine Straight Furrows Log Cabin Doll quilt from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Wonderful scale; machine quilted. Interesting construction of border with one strip of the dark fabric used as a straight border and a wider one with a ruffle. Green areas consist of 7 different calico prints; pink is one calico and one solid. Mended area on outer border about the size of a quarter is shown in thumbnail photo. Two unusual conversational prints include a horse and carriage, visible in next to last thumbnail photo, and another with rabbits seen in last image. Each block measures 4 1/4" across at widest point. Chevron quilting shows more on the solid white backing than on the front. Excellent condition. Pennsylvania origin. Measures 70" x 80".

Unusual Victorian Crazy Quilt with Dresden Plate center medallion and the initial "B". A fan, that looks like a partial Dresden Plate, is in each corner making for a very orderly crazy quilt, if that is not an oxymoron. Orange bows repeat the color of the embroidered frame. Excellent condition; has damage to two pieces, one of which is visible in thumbnail photo. Border is deep green velvet; interior is silk, Backing is silk of the same color as the bows.
