This lovely variation of an Ohio Stars (aka Variable Stars) pattern quilt is much more complex than the traditional. Each star is surrounded by an octagon and a geometric block surrounds all. Interesting use of partial stars that look like bow tie or hourglass blocks. A very bold, unusual pattern in a lovely soft shade of pink. Nicely quilted with cables in the wide border and chains in the inner pink border. Excellent condition; measures 82" x 84". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.

Very fine example of a Pine Tree quilt done with small pieces and tight quilting. Red sawtooth border is a clever continuation of the triangle theme used for the tree tops and is an excellent frame. Well quilted with diagonal lines and cross hatching. Has a tiny, well done patch less than the size of a dime in one corner; all else in excellent condition. Measures 72" square. Ohio origin; circa 1880.

Unique, eccentric Sampler Quilt that includes birds, apples and pineapples. Symmetrically placed stars are a nice balance to the irregularity of the alternate blocks. Two exceptionally fine American needle cases. The small one on the left is linen with silk binding. Excellent condition. Circa 1800. Has two tabs from which it was hung. Measures 5 1/4" long and 3 9/16" wide. Roll-up on right dates to about 1820; cotton. Excellent condition. Measures an unusually large 19" long and 6 3/4" wide.

A square, for instance, is formed around the central red and yellow blocks. The lozenge printed brown fabric creates a stepped pattern within the overall diamond. Very fine Straight Furrows Log Cabin Doll quilt from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Wonderful scale; machine quilted. Interesting construction of border with one strip of the dark fabric used as a straight border and a wider one with a ruffle. Green areas consist of 7 different calico prints; pink is one calico and one solid. Mended area on outer border about the size of a quarter is shown in thumbnail photo.
