This Mennonite Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt makes a striking wall hanging. The arrangement of color creates a central diamond pattern of the four central purple blocks. Very slight damage does not detract from the overall impact of the pattern. Wool; measures 68" square. Kutztown, Pennsylvania origin.

$775.
Very finely quilted and embroidered cradle or crib quilt dated 1891. Could Hattie E. Mory have been the maker at 5 years and 8 months? Usually, when a name and age are included it is that of the maker. It's astounding to think of a child as having made a piece this fine. At the same time, given the dimensions of 23" x 24 1/4", it was too small for Hattie to have slept under at that age, which adds doubt to the idea that someone had made it for her. The mystery adds to the charm of this exceptiona... Click for details

$2400.
It seems as though this quilt pattern would have a romantic or imaginative name other than the obvious X but I have been unable to locate one. In any case, it is remarkable how such a simple pattern can form several combinations and with the appearance of so much depth. Rich colored calico prints are terrifically offset by the solid white. Pristine, professionally laundered condition. Circa 1870; Pennsylvania origin. Measures 78" x 88".

$2450.
This early Twentyfive Patch pattern is done with a masterful use of fabrics and color. The dark brown corners of each meet to form an additional Four Patch, all done with some of the most lush, unusual fabrics that I have seen. Very good quilting. Has been professionally laundered with several tiny spots remaining. Measures 75" x 78". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1850.

$725.
The maker of this Double X quilt was truly inspired to use the multiple circular quilting patterns in contrast to the geometry of the pieced pattern. Unwashed condition; has several smudges that could likely be removed with a wash. Nice variety of fabrics. Measures 74" x 90". Pennsylvania origin; $725.

$1295.
Pristine, unwashed Economy Patch quilt made of a great variety of late 19th century fabrics. Batting is probably a blanket as the quilt is quite heavy but not thick. Lighter colors of the multiple borders wonderfully offset the darker interior. Measures 76" x 68"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1880; $1295.

Many features make this a very well executed version of a Double Nine Patch pattern. The blocks are postage stamp size. Each piece of the Nine Patch measures barely one inch. It is very nicely quilted with a variety of patterns. The colors are well placed with reds consistently making up the center. In addition to the Double Nine Patch pattern, it is laid out so that one gets a diagonal chain effect as well. Has been professionally washed. Measures 78" x 92"; Maryland origin; $695.

This Bear's Paw has the quilting and border treatments typical of many of Maryland's finest nineteenth century quilts. The double sawtooth border encases lovely vine quilting. A wreath within a wreath is quilted in each of the white blocks. Measures 94" x 96". Has been professionally laundered. Maryland origin; Circa 1870; $1650.

What first appears to be a simple Baskets quilt is actually quite a complex pattern. Multiple designs are created by tilting and turning the direction of the Baskets. Most striking is the Hole in the Barn Door pattern created by the convergence of the four basket bases. Illustrated in Quilts 2004, a copy of which is included with purchase. Circa 1880; Pennsylvania origin. Measures 76" x 62"; $1600.

$2800.
This is one of the most classic of Double Nine Patch quilts. It is made of 5 compatible prints; has wreaths quilted in the off blocks and clamshells in the outer border. The wide border is a terrific frame for the postage stamp size nine patch blocks. Has several light smudges that I find sufficiently inconsequential that I have not had it washed. Measures 68" x 80". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870. $2800.
