This is an exceptionally beautiful early 19th century papier mache table snuff box by Stockman of Brunswig, Germany. The box is handpainted in deep rich colors and shows an image of a young girl of the Netherlands, after the artist Van Dyke. The piece is documented in German on the interior of both the lid and base. Antique Period American country painted pine six board blanket chest c1790. This is the only six board blanket chest we have seen with a secret compartment. The left inside drawer is fake. When you remove the right drawer and pull out the center divider you can access the secret drawer as shown in one of the pictures provided.
