Pair of 18th to 19th century Italian painted architectural plinths, cornices or alter benches. Their original purpose is unknown. The paint and the hand made wooden pin construction are all original. Oh so rich, this Italian shelf has a deep red corded favric trimmed with wonderful old metallic trim...perhaps the cording was intended to secure a tilted plate or treasure. It has a few chips in places showing gesso ,which add to it's character. 19" across,5 1/2" projection from wall,6" high. Oh, the back has two metal pieces inset to hang it from.
