Antique isho-dansu, or Japanese clothing chest, dating to the late Meiji-period (early 1900's). This single section tansu is crafted from Kiri, or Paulownia wood, prized by Japanese furniture makers for being strong, lightweight and naturally resistant to damage from pests or the elements.
