Stone hokora, a protective structure originally employed to house the deity, be it Buddhist, Shinto, or an indeterminate hybrid thereof, of a given clan or locality. Clearly dated on the interior rear wall to the 18th year of the Kyoho Era (1733), mid-Edo Period. Minor loss. Extraordinary lichen accumulation.

Wrought iron garden patio set with winged owls c 1920 Couch two chairs. This is an amazing set. The owls were each individually cast and set into the backs of the chairs and settee with iron pins. The settee and the chairs were each made by hand from wrought iron. This set came to us from an important New England estate. It was designed for the family in the 1920 to 1930 period. Hexagonal Kasuga-style stone lantern hand-sculpted in six parts from a relatively soft sedimentary stone. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1700. Minor loss to the tip of the sacred jewel, the uppermost element, and partial loss to one of the flanged elements on the roof, visible in the final photograph; otherwise, excellent condition, with overall softening of the lines and contours. Good lichen accumulation.
