A oak or chestnut veneer "Arch Top" model by Seth Thomas dating about 1875.One of Seth Thomas' more expensive domestic mantel clocks, costing $7.50! when other shelf clocks cost about $2.00 and change. Certainly one of the most popular collected models made, probably due to their beauty and higher quality. This features a "Lyre" type movement running eight days and striking on a coiled gong. Restored dial and replaced lower panel. 15 1/2"

A writing box veneered in wonderful Fruitwood and adorned with brass. It opens up to reveal a writing surface in which it is embellished in an elegant gilt design and hidden compartments to store writing implements of sorts. The top opens up to uncover a large place to put things and the bottom does likewise (as photographed). The writing box has working lock mechanisms with key. Overall, the box is in good condition. This is an Indonesian, probably Balinese two stringed musical instrument with a stem carved as a seated ancestor. It is 18 1/4” long. The body or “box” is boat shaped and carved with panels of designs. It is very old with a fine patina and no damage. The strings are steel and play well. We purchased it about 25 years ago at Phillips in London. At the same time an identical one was sold at Christies for 950 pounds ($1900).
