This is a cabinet photo of DR. DAVID BRUCE, a world famous PATHOLOGIST and MICROBIOLOGIST (1855-1931). He identified the cause of SLEEPING SICKNESS. He won the LEEUWENHOEK MEDAL in 1915. BRUCELLOSIS, or undulant fever, is named for him as he was the one who identified the cause of this disease. This fine photo is identified on the back in period writing. A period newspaper clipping is also attached to the back. The photo is 7"x4.75".

This C1865 CDV is of CHARLES FAYETTE TAYLOR (1827-1899), who was one of the most famous orthopedic surgeons of his day. He specialized in INFANTILE PARALYSIS (POLIO) DEFORMITIES, and was the RESIDENT SURGEON OF THE NEW YORK ORTHOPEDIC DISPENSARY. Identified on the verso in period writing. This CDV was taken by the well-known New York City photographer J.GURNEY & SON, PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTISTS 707 BROADWAY. An early, heavy solid copper hand-wrought copper cooking pot from the late 18th-early 19th century. This unsigned 9" diameter and 5" high pot has a thick hand-riveted 9-7/8" handle. The hand hammering and 3lb. 7 ounces weight, combined with the original tin lining, gives this pot a great look. It has a bevelled base and a great interior patina as well as some verdigris (greening), however the exterior has been cleaned in the past. A Chinese hardwood snapline holder, 19th century. With three engraved stars, a heart shaped well for the ink soaked material and slots in sides and top, this well used carpentry tool is a fine work of folk art. It has a slot for a spatulate device in one side, an iron crank and wood wheel for the ink line. Its shape resembles that of a shoe or boat. There is a heavy ink crust worn in places. Dimensions are 3 1/4" high X 8 3/4" long X 3 1/4" wide or 8cm X 22cm X 8cm.
