The bespectacled character protrayed on this antiques nutcracker could possibly be an old woman, but I choose to think that it Guisseppe, the widower who fashioned his "son" Pinocchio to ease his loneliness. Whichever and whatever, the carving is full of character. Tyrolean or Swiss, late Nineteenth Century, it is in fine condition, with only minor wear and no repairs, and is about eight inches in length and 1-3/4 inches wide and three inches deep.

Called a "spider" in its day, this sort of tripod wrought-iron pan was suitable for cooking directly in the hearth or on an open fire. It was light for carrying on military and other excursions and the long handle kept the business end far away enough from the fire to protect the cook. This excellent example is particularly graceful and animal-like, and its hanging end says that it was made with love. Antique Wine Cooler, Antique Davenport Wine Cooler, Antique Caneware. This "Antique Davenport Caneware Relief Molded Wine Cooler circa 1800 to 1810" measures 7 and one quarter inches in diameter at the rim and is 9 and three quarter inches tall.
