Pre-1900 era rivercane basket, Cherokee Indian, North Carolina. A hickory rim and handle add form to the round to square plaited basket.

Rivercane is natural and dyed with bloodroot and walnut. Great patina! Also a little dusty. Better to leave it than to snag it while cleaning.

Material culture Indian burden basket was woven for native use by the Apache Indians around 1900.

Finely woven with mulberry rods and wefts, with design of devils claw and aniline dyed red mulberry. The rim is wrapped with two coils of willow and devils claw. Circa 1930s, a bundled coil Salish tray of cedar root with open handles, intricate rim and vegetable dyed imbricated overlay in red, black and tan. The design is a lobed flower also known as star form. Crosses are woven at the 5 interior points. Fine quality work and very good overall condition with minimal loss mainly on crosses. Very large Maine guide's basket made by the Passamaquoddy Indians of Northern Maine somewhere in the early 1900s. This was used to carry lunch for sportsmen and hunters and carried by the Indian guide. It is in very good condition and measures 12" x 19-1/2" wide and approx 9" deep, excluding the unusual handle. Loops along the side accommodated a cover to protect the contents of the basket, which appears to be made from split ash. Very good condition for it's age.

Very fine work adorned with shells, these baskets were treasured as fine art. Woven of sedge and bulrush, this pretty basketry bowl measures 5 1/2" diameter by 2 1/2" deep, an unbelievable stitch count of 26 per inch on a three rod foundation. Neat little food bowl, Yokuts Indian basket. This oval basketry bowl fits nicely in hand, 4 1/2" by 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" deep.

Rare and wonderful Pima Indian basket has a tiny glass bead woven in each stitch. Over 1000 glass beads on this small cup, measuring 3" diameter by 1 7/8" deep. Seven coils and twenty-two stitches per inch.

The glass beads are white, turquoise, dark blue and one green one! Lovely pattern is created with the beads, no devils claw pattern to the basket except for the rim.... Click for details
