A fine and early Canadian East Coast native ash splint buttocks basket c1900 (or earlier). This basket stands 10-3/4" high with the handle and it measures 11-3/4" x 10-7/8" across the mouth; it is in excellent original condition with no damage or repairs other than a stained area with some minor losses on the interior bottom of the basket. Charming small handled box type basket Thompson River Salish. Bundle coils, imbricated overlay, cedar, spruce root, grasses and cherry bark. The handle is attached with soft leather thongs.

Dimensions are 6 3/4" long by 4" wide by 4" tall, six stitches and 2 1/2 coils per inch. Look like a little picnic basket or purse!
