Arte Xibalba

$325
An excellent Chimu textile panel from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. It is 16-1/2” long, 5-3/4” wide and depicts a series of seven shamans, interspersed with anthropomorphic beings. The tumi form headdresses indicate that this scene takes place in the spirit realm. Nice colors, beautifully framed, ready to hang.

See Stone-Miller “To Weave for the Sun”, pages 166 & 250, for similar from Boston’s MFA.

This is a very interesting lot. Consists of a necklace made of tiny shells, each drilled by hand in ancient times and strung on a string, as seen. The needle is some type of very hard wood. Used in ancient times for sewing. Polish evident, and a choice, intact example with it's original thread in-situ.

The necklace measures 44 cm in length, and would do well to be restrung professionally, and the needle measures 9 cm i... Click for details

Decorated with dark brown, almost black wraps of grass spaced geometrically along its rim and in its body, this old highlands basket (LFG458) is attributed to the Tiahuanacan cultural period of Bolivia, c.400-1200AD. In overall good condition, though darkened and slightly out-of-round due to desiccation and age, a few areas along the rim of the 7” long basket have lost the grass loops exposing the bundled fiber coil. In addition to a few small areas along the sides of the basket where similar lo... Click for details

This is an extremely fine, ancient Peruvian Inca textile used to carry a pottery jug of some type - probably a water jug.

Condition: Some abrasion, due to it's being used in ancient times, but it's a wonderful example of the high quality weaving being produced by the Incan culture.

A lovely example of the typical patterns created by the weave... Click for details
