An excellent Chimu textile panel from Peru, ca. 1100 – 1450 AD. It is 16-1/2” long, 5-3/4” wide and depicts a series of seven shamans, interspersed with anthropomorphic beings. The tumi form headdresses indicate that this scene takes place in the spirit realm. Nice colors, beautifully framed, ready to hang. See Stone-Miller “To Weave for the Sun”, pages 166 & 250, for similar from Boston’s MFA.

Decorated with dark brown, almost black wraps of grass spaced geometrically along its rim and in its body, this old highlands basket (LFG458) is attributed to the Tiahuanacan cultural period of Bolivia, c.400-1200AD. In addition to a few small areas along the sides of the basket where similar lo... Click for details
