An important Moche III stirrup bottle from Peru, ca. 200 – 450 AD. This fantastic example is 7-1/4" high and is covered with spotted beans that represent a written language utilizing pictographs to communicate messages. The spots and disposition of these beans were used to narrate historical events. See Hoyle “Los Mochicas I”, page 163-166, for a similar vessel and extensive details.

A Late Nazca single spout bottle from Peru, ca. 650 – 700 AD. This fine polychrome vessel is 6” high and is decorated with Huari influenced versions combining elements of Surrounded Heads and Rayed Eye motifs, with a stylized serpent band encircling the center of the chamber. A wonderfully delicate Recuay footed bowl from Peru, ca. 200 BC – 550 AD. This superb kaolin example is 5-1/4” in diameter and is decorated with traditional resist designs, topped by an unusual rim band representing claws or fangs. A rare Inca offering dish from Peru, ca. 1450 – 1550 AD. The shallow plate is 5-3/4” in diameter, with a broad loop handle extending 2” beyond the rim. The piece is painted with a reddish-cream slip and decorated with repetitive linear designs. In excellent condition, with good mineral deposits. Chavin Bottle, Ca. 1000-400 B.C. Small, redware terracotta bottle having a rounded body with tall, slender neck of slightly corseted form. Possibly representing an anthropomorphized rodent or guinea pig with relief facial detail on the body consisting of lightly recessed eyes and mouth, relief nose and “c” shaped ears flanking. Intact, save for a tiny probe hole on reverse. Provenance: Ex. Jean-Eugene Lions collection, Geneva, Switzerland.

Magnificent and large... Ancient Pottery Urn from the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica, dating between 500-1200 A.D. Impressive polychrome example with two opposing lizards in relief. Decorated in wonderful shades of red, brown and cream with geometric decorations on both the base/top. 13-1/4"H x 9-1/2"W, as is typical with examples of this size, the urn has been professionally restored from several fragments with some repainting. A superb Nazca canteen from Peru, ca. 400 – 600 AD. This lentoid shape vessel with small loop handles is 6” high and is decorated with two highly detailed trophy heads. Both are depicted with long, flowing hair, sharp teeth and odd ornamentations. Rare type, great paint.
