A rare Bahia tusk form pectoral pendant from Ecuador, ca. 500 BC – 300 AD. This exceptional figural example is 4-1/8” long, carved from white limestone, with a nicely detailed face at the upper end. In perfect condition, with good mineral deposits. Drilled for suspension.

This selection of jadeite beads (MAP 152, 183A-D) is attributed to the Classic Maya, c.300-900AD. Specific provenance where found is not known, but the jade is certainly from the Motagua River valley of Guatemala, the only recognized source of the treasured mineral in Central America. The three larger obsidian blades shown in this group (MAP155, 156 and 157) were all found in West Mexico in the mid-20th century by the late Lynn Langdon. Previously sold to another collector, they have now come back to HD Enterprises as the present owner sells off his collection. These are some of the nicer blades from Lynn’s old collection, and one of them presents somewhat of a mystery. The 24 variscite (a hydrous aluminum phosphate mineral) beads and pendant that make up this stunning necklace (PBF205) are all attributed to the Tairona horizon of Colombia dating c.1000-1600AD. The mineral variscite, though looking much like green turquoise, was confirmed through the use of a refractometer that showed a spot refractive index of 1.58.
