A sizeable Roman-Egyptian terracotta figure of a naked girl in a praying posture. Late 2nd – 3rd century AD. Made from a two-part mould, she sits with both hands raised, her legs bent and spread beneath her. She is wearing a necklace with three ring shape pendants, a single bracelet around her wrists, her hair is worn in an elaborate style. This is an Egyptian wood burial figure known as an ushabti. It is 7 1/2” high and dates to XIX-XX dynasty, 1320-1085BC. These were buried with a person in the expectation that they would serve the deceased in the afterlife and are sometimes known as “servant figures”. This one was purchased at Phillips in London about 30 year ago. Egyptian figure of Harpokrates wearing a long tunic. The child god is putting his right hand into a pot (like the cornucopia a symbol of abundance). The head is superbly delineated. A Herakles knot with two feathers top the round forehead.
