A spectacular necklace strung with good quality cornelian and gold beads.
The gold beads are of a rounded bi-conical form and typical of Mesopotamian gold-work, the metal is quite thick and extremely high carat.
The cornelian beads represent an enormous variety of shapes including bi-conical, lentoid, spherical and disc shaped examples.
The central bead is a large variegated and partially calcified cornelian, with traces of green copper oxide.

This Sassanian seal has an image of Pegasus on the flat side and this piece dates circa 4th-5th century A.D. This seal was carved into a white chalcedony stone and it is translucent. A measuring weight carved from a piece of banded agate to form the shape of a stylised recumbent duck with its head turned across its back as if sleeping.
