A fine glazed pottery skyphos with two ring handles and a rounded body decorated with an intricate design of raised dots. The surface is covered in a streaky orange/brown glaze which is typical of early Roman ceramics, the glaze has been allowed to thicken on the rim so as to create a decorative band of darker colouring.
An unusual type of design which has produced a highly successful vessel as a result.

2nd century A.D., North African Redware wine flagon, rounded body, tapering cylindrical spout and single decorated handle, the body of the Jug with applied decoration of a gladiator with spear and shield with wreath above, and an Imperial Eagle with wreath above, each panel with palms at sides.
This is a spectacular example of a fine wine jug, it is believed that vessels of this type were given to winning gladiators.
