This excellent little example of ancient Roman glass was uncovered in Southern France. Probably a cosmetic bottle, its bulbous little body bears three bold applied bosses of lions heads, all in a fine shade of blue-green. Approximately 2-1/4 inches tall and the same wide, it is in excellent condition, with a generalized iridescence of age. First or Second Century.

This 4 1/8” tall ancient glass bottle (RG30), known as an unguentarium, is attributed to the Roman period, c.100-300AD. Acquired in Cyprus in the earlier 20th century by the then US Ambassador to France, the late Walter Evans Edge, the very pale aqua bottle is intact and in excellent condition but coated on the inside with a thin layer of mud. This 4 ¾” tall, very pale green, eight-sided, mold-blown (or possibly paddled), ancient glass bottle (RG25) has a funnel-shaped neck with an encircling and upward spiraling trail of glass. Intact and in excellent condition, the surface is coated with a patchy residue of mud and has a scattered opalescence from the decomposing glass. Measuring 4 ½” in height and leaning slightly on its somewhat slanted base, this ancient glass bottle (RG29) is known as an unguentarium. Pale aqua in color, it was acquired in Cyprus in the early 20th century by the then US Ambassador to France, Walter Evans Edge, and attributed to the Roman period, c.100-300AD. Dating into the 1st century AD, this hollow gold ring (100.178BHD) was found in northern Afghanistan. The intaglio, depicting a Roman youth, is made up of a black and white opaque glass ‘sandwich’. The intaglio is ½” long, and the ring a diminutive size 1. Not a wearable piece, the ring is in overall fairly good relic condition with a little splitting and bending around the bezel area.
