Roman, c. mid 2nd to 3rd Century AD Intact as shown Size: 8.5 x 6 cms Provenance: Ex. private collection, Somerset, UK. Acquired c. 1960's/1970's in Palestine while founding and running a mixed Arab and Jewish charitable orphanage. Moshe Dayan was a regular visitor to the orphanage and influenced the formation of the antiquities collection.

A fragment from the tondo of a moulded and glazed pottery oil lamp depicting an erotic scene. A male figure is shown reclining on a couch while a female rides his torso. This position was known as "The Jockey" in the Classical period and it was the most expensive position which a prostitute could be required to supply.
