A fine glazed pottery skyphos with two ring handles and a rounded body decorated with an intricate design of raised dots. The surface is covered in a streaky orange/brown glaze which is typical of early Roman ceramics, the glaze has been allowed to thicken on the rim so as to create a decorative band of darker colouring. 2nd century A.D., North African Redware wine flagon, rounded body, tapering cylindrical spout and single decorated handle, the body of the Jug with applied decoration of a gladiator with spear and shield with wreath above, and an Imperial Eagle with wreath above, each panel with palms at sides. A very attractive Samian Ware red gloss pottery bowl decorated in moulded relief around most of the body. The decoration consists of four separate panels. Two panels contain duplicated figures of a dancing faun and naked male within a foliate wreath. Another panel depicts a bull being led to sacrifice wearing a ribbon around its girth (presumably a human figure, now lost, would have been leading him). The decoration consists of rectangular panels separated by quatrefoil floral arrangements and framed along the upper edge by an ovolo border. Each rectangular panel is quartered diagonally and contains a bird in the upper field and ivy leaves or sprigs in two other fields, leaving the fourth and lowest field empty. The shape more or less imitates silver and bronze kantharoi of the first Century BC. Height: 9.5 cm. Width from handle to handle: 16.2 cm. Good condition. Foot glued. Small crack to the rim, some surface abrasion and small rim chips. Few remains of soil on the surface. Dutch art market.
