A fragment from the tondo of a moulded and glazed pottery oil lamp depicting an erotic scene. A male figure is shown reclining on a couch while a female rides his torso. This position was known as "The Jockey" in the Classical period and it was the most expensive position which a prostitute could be required to supply. We are pleased to offer another lovely mouldmade ancient oil lamp. Brown in colour with a portrait of Jupiter or Jove cloaked in drapery . Dates to circa the 1st century A.D. Measures 6 1/2 inches in length. Intact and in excellent condition!

Lovely mouldmade lapm made of red clay with red slip. Convex lower part, flat top and depressed disk with the image of a Kantharos and vine. Channel running between the disk and nozzle. There are circles interchanged with squares on the shoulder and a tongue style handle at rear. Only one fill hole present and in great condition. Measures 5.5 inches in length.

Here you find a mouldmade ancient oil lamp. Convex lower part and flat top. In concave disk, a vertical figure of a bird most likely a dove. There is a channel running from the rim to the top of the flat nozzle. On the shoulder we find a vine like pattern. Slight carbon traces and growth deposits still present. Measures 6 inches in length.

The underside is moulded in imitation of bronze-casting with a series of concentric circles on the base and radiating tongues below the spout.
