A red slip glazed pottery oil lamp with moulded decoration. The discus of the lamp is moulded with a humorous scene depicting the drunken Silenos riding an ass in a rather hap-hazard fashion.
Silenos was a generally benign demi-god associated with the perils of excessive drinking!
The lamp is signed on the base by the maker: LUCCFOR or CUCCFOR.
Roman, circa 2nd Century AD
Intact apart from the surface chips visible in the photographs.

A pottery dish coated in an orange/light red glossy slip and decorated with stamped and incised decoration.
The underside of the dish is decorated with a series of diagonal lines under the rim, the front is decorated with three stylised shields within a series of concentric incised circles.

Repaired from three large pieces as seen in the photographs.

A red slip ware pottery flask with two strap handles and appliqué decoration to the surface.
Both sides of the body are decorated with a single appliqué framed by a pair of palm fronds. Both handles are moulded with stylised palm frond decoration.
One appliqué shows a figure of a leaping wild boar. The other appliqué depicts a very interesting male double-head: when viewed normally, one sees a bearded head but when turned upside down one sees another head where the beard has become the hair a... Click for details

A pedestal foot from a large red ware pottery vase which was broken in antiquity and re-used to create a small bowl.
What is now the foot of the present bowl was once the tondo of the larger vessel which had been ground down to form a round edge, the slip covering on the underside of the present foot also testifies to this being an example of "early recycling".

A surface chip on the outside surface otherwise in good condition.
