Large Roman basalt head of a young woman or goddess. Roman Syria, 1st - 2nd Century AD. Her face and hair style clearly show Hellenizing influence. Minor ancient damage to one of the right side hair curls and to the diadem on top. Wonderful old surface patina all over. A few small recent chips to the base edge. No repairs, no restorations. Comes with custom stand. Height without stand: 27 cm. Ex German private collection.
