A Russian/Caucasian niello snuff box inlaid with an Islamic inscription within a decorative border. Dimensions: 2 x 1 1/8 x ½ in. 19th cent.

Excellent undamaged condition, traces of snuff residue. At 50 gr. weight, the box is unusually heavy for its size.

Provenance: Sir Denis Wright, former British Ambassador to Iran (1963-71).

Tibetan Silver, Coral and Copper Amulet Box

This box, likely 19th Century Tibetan or Nepalese, was carried suspended on two cords, something like a Japanese netsuke, and worn for safekeeping articles or relics. It measures 2 1/5" x 2". The silver is worn through in several places, but the piece preserves its charm of place and manufacture.
