DESCRIPTION: A beautifully carved Chinese export cinnabar jewelry box with cloisonné latch, dating from the late Qing to early Republic Period (c. 1900 – 1930). The top is skillfully carved with a bird and peony motif on a background of alternating squares, and all four sides are carved in a classic lotus with scrolling tendrils design. This is a very good 19th Screen of 4 panels; first measurement: Length is 105 cm, width of each panel is 30 cm. thickness of each panel is 2.5 cm. This is a 19th Century screen in excellent condition. It is lacquer over painting on the wood panels. The main theme is chrysanthemum with insects and birds. Each panel depicts a season of the year: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.

Superb Chinese cinnabar plate edged with metal. Six character stylized Qianlong reign mark (nien-hao) in a square cartouche to the reverse reads Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi or Made in the Great Qing Qianlong Period, but most likely 19th century. The reverse is also carved with attributes of the Daoist Immortals. Excellent condition. The carving is deep and the edges sharp. Darker color seen in our first two images is accurate.
