This early to mid-19th century Chinese pewter teapot is sized to brew two small cups of tea. The outsized handle, made to resemble a Western cup handle, and the long curved spout are said to be a favorite design of that era, probably because it was so functional. Pewter was used for brewing strong teas; ceramics for brewing lighter teas. This pot has a few small dents on one side of the shoulder; otherwise it is in good condition. Rare crisply cast bronze bell with reticulated and knobbed pattern from the Warring States to Han period. Originally this piece would have had a wooden handle. There are some old and worn chips on one side of the mouth which are due oxidation, having said this it the rest of the piece is stable and still has some tone when struck. A well patinated 16th/17th Century bronze Gu form vase cast archaic Shang dynasty style. This is from the collection of the late Reverend Victor Farmer. Condition - the interior base has been replaced or re-glued and there are the usual 'production' repairs - made at the time of manufacture. This item was probably made during the reign of the Wanli emperor - 1573 to 1619. 11.7 inches (30cm) high.

A gilt bronze belt hook unusually cast with a bat's head to the centre and with a dragon head terminal. This item was made either during the early Western Han Dynasty or the late Warring States period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty - circa 3rd to 4th Century BC. For an example dating to the same period please see lot 204 - Bonhams, London 12 May 2008. Condition - very good. No repairs or restoration. 3.2 inches (8cm) long.
