Sancai glazed belligerent warrior riding horseback, right hand close to chest in motion of drawing his sword. Wearing elaborate layered armor, broad face modeled with fierce gaze. Friendly and whimsical expression of horse with smiling lips, elaborate harness and saddle. Some restoration. In good condition. Circa 1368 - 1644. 19 1/2" high.

A Ching Dynasty Bronze Horse (circa 1880) which has acquired a pleasing dark and variegated patina. Approximately 7 inches (17.5 cm) long (measured from raised front hoof to end of tail) and standing 7 inches (17.5 cm) tall (from hoof to tip of head), and weighing 2 lbs 2.8 ounces (988 grams). The horse is in overall fine condition; however, there has been one professional repair to a broken rear leg which has been very cleanly reattached without losses. Rare and finely sculpted torso of the Buddha seated in the Bhadra asana from the Tang Dynasty. This is a classic piece which clearly illustrates the Gandharan Greek inspired influence on early Chinese Buddhist art. The head and lower portion of base have been cut off to remove an attempt to restore the image using contemporary commercial materials. H: 13.7cm/5.4in and W: 11.2cm/4.4in.
