This interesting stoneware jar was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) and has been excavated from Sichuan province. It is one of three that we are selling on our website that have been excavated from the same burial. A very large museum quality blue cobalt Martaban Jar. It is very, very rare to find this type of jar in cobalt blue, especially in this size and condition. Martaban jars were originally made in China used for storage of food for trading ships. They were eventually traded to the natives in Southeast Asia, mainly Borneo, and were highly prized. The center of the vase has a relief of a dragon chasing the evasive flaming pearl. Size: H. 92.8cm. W. 46cm. Condition: Very good with no repairs or miss... Click for details

Fine and rare grayish white bodied stone ware bowl with transparent green tinted glaze. The shape of this piece seems to be Northern Song but it is quite substantially potted with a thick wall and footrim, there is an impressed band of chrysanthemums (difficult to see, as it is always problematic photographing white wares but its there) on the cavetto. The porcelaneous quality of the clay shows a strong Jingdezhen affinity so in my opinion this most likely from a Southern kiln emulating ... Click for details

Chinese Yuan to Ming dynasty black-glazed high-shouldered tapered stoneware storage jar with horizontal striations. The entire jar, including the interior, is glazed, leaving only the underside of the foot and a few chips at the base (which could be production flaws) free of glaze. The wide, flat, smooth foot rim reveals a buff colored body. Circa 14th to 15th century. Measures 5 3/4” high x 4 ½” diameter. Solidly potted and in very good overall condition. From the private collection of a ... Click for details
