Chinese ,Qing dynasty length 6.3cm height 2.9cm The lion rests his paw on a ball, as he is often depicted. The Chinese used a toggle in the same way that the Japanese used a netsuke. The Japanese did,in fact, often use toggles as netsukes.

Of cylindrical form, covered in a rich patina, the exterior deeply reticulated and well carved the entire length with the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove and their attendants, one playing the qin while the others look on and engage in different pursuits, all in a forest of pine and bamboo, fitted with a hardwood top and base. Minor age cracks. 18th C. 7 1.2 in.

A chinese carved wooden figure of a deity or temple guardian decorated in black ang gold leaf with red base colour showing through . I find these objects very difficult to date but I guarantee it is no later than C18th and is probably Ming . It stands 8 1/4ins high . There are losses to the right hand and left foot . I have not tried to clean him . A beautiful cultural object .

Here is an extremely well carved sculptural figure of Shoulao with staff. The carving details and the color and patina of wood is rich and polished. Facial expression, position of body, and drape of clothing, are exceptionally well executed in this pleasing work of art, at a very good price. This is a real collectors find.
