Very old and rare sculpture of Maya Devi, mother of Lord Buddha, Nepalese ca. 12th c, black hard stone. Maya Devi has a serene face with arched eye brows and finely carved eyes, nose and mouth and there is a halo behind the head. Maya Devi's left hand is leaning on a white elephant that occurred in her dreams when she was pregnant with Lord Buddha and is a symbol of Royalty in Asia.
