The phurba is one of the most important of the shaman's implements, and this particular phurba is an exceptional example of the great effort and tremendous creativity that goes into the making of this magical tool. From the Middle Hills Region of Nepal comes this striking and very old (19th Century) genuine Shaman Mask with a very good patina. Take a good look at the back so that you can see the age and see the unusual markings left by the carving tool. Not typical at all. Very Good to Excellent Condition. Height is 10.25 inches (26cm).

19th Century Nepalese Shaman Sculpture with traces of yellow and red pigment and an incredible, dense, dark patina. So thick and dark is the amazing patina that the necklace that covers the chest and back, and the carvings on the skirt, are barely visible. The hole on the bottom indicates that this was likely the handle of a dagger or staff. The old customs seal is also on the bottom. 8 inches, 20 cm. Very Good Condition.

19th Century Indian Lotus Blossom Water Spout, also known by the Sanskrit word for Womb, Yoni. Acquired from Michael Huguenon, Paris in 1990. Copper. It is a Hindu ritual object used for pouring libations of water, most often used to scoop and pour water during ritual bathing/praying. Length: 14 inches (36cm), Width: 6 inches (15cm), Height: 5 inches (12.5cm). Excellent Condition.

This striking 19th Century Mask with a wrinkled face is from the Northern Indian Monpa People of Tibetan descent in Arunachal Pradesh. It has traces of red and black pigment, and is very well patinated on the front and the back. The old customs seal is on the back. 8.5 inches, 22 cm. Very Good Condition.

19th Century Tibetan Painted Red, Black, and Gold Mask that is well patinated from considerable use, and is darkened from the smoke of yak butter lamps used in temples. The back is especially well patinated, and the old customs seal may also be found on the back. There is very thin, native repaired cracking from the eye to the mouth and on the chin. Face mask of almost flat shape, with rectangular protruding forehead, long triangular nose, pierced-through rectangular eyes and mouth. Wood, with fine dark-brown patina. Animal hair has been affixed with black resin, to represent eyebrows, moustache and beard. Old rope still attached to the mask. Himalayas, 19th century, probably even earlier. This is a Tibetan Ritual Celestial Crown also know as a Diadem or Ringga. It is worn by a necromancer or oracle during rituals. The "crown" consists of 5 separate paintings on paper and each painting is backed with thin cardboard for stiffness. The sections are connected with string. Small perfume phial decorated all over its body with stylized lotus in relief. Bronze, with nice, slightly encrusted, green patina. Nepal, or Tibet, 16th century, maybe earlier. Height: 3 1/2" (8 cm). Obvious signs of great age, very good condition. Note: the piece is quite heavy.
