A complete flat panel figuring one of the two most famous deities protecting Tharu villages in the South West of Nepal. These panels are fixed deeply into the ground and kept in sanctuary either in special huts or in open field. Very impressive signs of water erosion, very great age at least 100 to 150 years considering that it is made with extremely hard wood. Exquisite Buddhist symbol representing the Wheel of the Buddhist Law, surrounded by other Buddhist symbols on front and back, in an oval frame resting on a stylized double lotus tall base. Finely embossed silver, with, on each side, a coral (at the front) and turquoise (at the back) inlay at the center of the Wheel. Tibet, 19th century. Height: 4 6/8" (12 cm). One Tibetan thangka depicts Padma Sambhava with his Emanations. He is the forefather of all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The name "Gura Padma Sambhava" translates as "The Lotus Born Master".
The thangka is framed in a heavy frame. Painting size: 17.75"x25". Frame size: 25"x32.5". Excellent condition. Circa late 19th C.

This unusual cover was once painted on both sides; the top still shows traces of the sacred symbols, birds and foliage that made up the design. The reverse is painted gold on red showing scenes of religious debate and meditation in a mountain landscape with deer, swirling clouds and dragons. One end of the cover is carved with a scroll design. 27 1/2" (70 cm.) by 10 3/4" (27 cm.)

A very great Ghurra showing a wonderful house on his top , the whole piece is nicely and realistically carved with a special attention to the double knot of rope and to the house. Note also the thick encrusted black patina and the great sign use especially seen in the rotating hole, indicating a very great age likely very close and possibly over 100 years.
