This is one the most perfect Gandharan stucco heads of Buddha that we have ever seen - it was purchased at a very high end antiques shop on Paris back in the 1980s. The head measures 4 ¾” high by 3” wide by 3 ¼” deep and is in excellent condition. The head in more perfectly round than the majority of stucco heads found as there is a very small area on the back of the head where it was attached to a stucco frieze. A carved schist panel showing a seated meditating Buddha or Jain surrounded by 12 disciples and a Nandi. Having showed this plaque to several experts in S- and SE-Asian art have not given me any clear interpretation of the center figure which can be Jain or Buddhist. An earth touching N-Indian bronze Buddha from the post-Gupta period 7-9th century. Lord Buddha without head protuberance, ears with long earlobes, serene face with eyes, mouth and nose. A small line running across the torso indicates a monks robe, both nipples are visible. Buddha itself without any jewelry. Hands and feet nicely modeled. Wonderfully patinated temple oil lamp hold by a goddess. NE-Indian origin probably Bengal area from early 19th century. The goddess is standing upright on a beautiful Lotus base. Her face is serene and she is nicely bejeweled with a crown, earrings and necklace. Oil reservoir with room for 5 wickets in her hands on her head another reservoir with room for 6 wickets. H: 23 cm, D: 15cm, W: 16 cm. Condition very good. Disassembles in three parts. Top and front reservoir are detachable.

A uniquely shaped bronze ewer from N-India, Mughal period, 18th c. Very nicely shaped spout, under which there is a stylistic plate symbolizing the trifork of Shiva. The ewer was probably used in the Siva Linga Hindu ritual. Condition: Perfect. H: 26,5 cm.
