This is a fine heavily cast bronze figure of Narasimha with his consort Lakshmi seated on his thigh. The four-armed deity is shown in typical iconographic posture and dates from the early 18th century. Narasimha bronzes are rather rare, and this is a very attractive one, which, despite its age, still shows fine and expressive detail. Narasimha, half-lion half-man, is the fourth incarnation of Vishnu. It was said that t... Click for details

This is a very unusual early 18th century depiction of Shiva and his consort Parvati. My best guess is that it is a form of Khandoba/Mhalsa from western India. Although it is consistent with Khandoba in that Shiva is carrying a sword (broken off many years ago) and the two are on a steed, ths murti is unusual in that the pair are riding sidesaddle and the steed is not a horse, but a Nandi! As you can see, this is quite a special piece, and it has a nice brassy lustre with both faces worn compl... Click for details

The two bronzes were most likely cast and worshipped together as they have the same coppery patina and same degree of devotional wear, as well as similar amounts of fine detail.Height 10.3 cm (Vishnu) and 9.3 cm (Lakshmi), width ...
