19th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of Garuda standing on one knee and holding his hands in front of him in praying attitude (anjali mudra indicating total devotion). Garuda, being the mount of Vishnu, is regarded as representing essential qualities of the deity in animal form, and was worshipped as deity itself. Early 19th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of sitting Ganesha cast in the state of Karnataka. Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, and thus is invoked before any new undertaking. He bestows good luck on his worshippers, and is invoked in marriage ceremonies and in some forms of Tantric worship. There are very nice added silver bracelets on his arms attesting to the importance of the image to the worshipper. Traces of vermillion powder from worship, beautiful warm patina, wonderful feel of... Click for details

The spoon part is cast as petals of a flower, with 2 stylized birds above, stem is cast with braid pattern, and the end of the spoon represents Garuda (identified by his small wings) protected from above by a hood of Nagas (cobras). Very good casting and detailing, traces of vermillion powder used in puja ceremony, very good patina from being touched during worship, very pleasant... Click for details

A very old Buddha from the post-Gupta era NE-India ca. 9th century. Lord Buddha with a serene face is seated in lotus position calling the earth to witness. This a very early Buddha made in a style that influenced Buddhist art in huge parts of S- and SE-Asia. Unfortunately the right hand is missing and the nose has been hurt too, also the Buddha has to be supported to stand upright since the base is missing. In any case this kind of Buddha image is very rare and the price reflects the condition ... Click for details
