Vedanta Desika lived from 1269 to 1370 and was a great spiritual teacher and writer, and is one of the very few non-deities ever depicted in Hindu murtis. His explanations of the Transcendence and Immanence of God are illuminating. He stands for non-violence, sense-control, universal compassion, infinite patience, wisdom, austerity, meditation, and truth. In this wonderful early 18thC bronze statue, he is meditating in a lotus posture. This item has a very smooth touch and a dark rich patina. No... Click for details

This is a doubly rare, Chola Period (10-12C) bronze murti of Lord Vishnu and his two consorts, Bhudevi and Lakshmi (Sridevi). Not only a rarity due to its age, this particular configuration and pose is also scarcely seen in any timeframe. Similar to the traditional Lakshminarayana figure, where one consort, Lakshmi, sits upon Vishnu's left knee, this image shows both the consorts, one on each knee. This triad is most often shown standing, so this is an unusual opportunity on several counts. Even... Click for details

Parvati is the consort of Shiva and her name means "she who dwells in the mountains". She was the daughter of Himavat (Lord of the mountains) and his queen Mena. She is usually described as very beautiful.
In this murti, Parvati is portrayed is the elegant tribhang position, with her left hand in the kathaka position, requesting the offering of flowers. The composition of the murti is very classical and the narrow waist and unusual blue-grey patina give it a definite grace.

This unusual Ganesh was cast in the early 18th century. Murtis from Himachal Pradesh are quite uncommon, and this is the only Himachali murti of Ganesh I have encountered. Ganesh is depicted holding attributes in each hand and seated on an integral base. Note his trunk wrapped around the cup in his hand! There is very fine casting with ancient worn surface from devotional use with traces of red powder on surface.
