This is a beautiful bamboo flower basket made by Tanabe Chikuhosai in Taisho era ( ca. 1910s~1920s ). It has an ample shape and exquisite weaving technique of bamboo strips. Three diagonal strips are lost in the upper part of one side and it also has a few minor cuts. In good condition as a whole. Height 38cm 15.0" Diameter of the longer side 32cm 12.6" Diameter of the shorter side 25cm 9.8"

Rich patina tea ceremony bamboo flower basket from early 1900's. Beautiful 'susdake' smoked bamboo has been used from old Japanese farmhouses, split and woven into a piece of art. This particular basket feature a diagonal insertion technique with wide strips being inserted between plaited weaves. A 'tomobuchi' rim is employed with upward curling strips to create the rim.
