This ikebana basket has a bamboo insert that's beveled to fit. It's a traditional design, reminiscent of a gourd or "hyotan". The basket has a lot of rootwood, particularly around the base. There's one separated bamboo strip, visible in the photographs. Otherwise it's very sound. Dates from Meiji or Taisho period.
