A fine late 19th century Meiji period Japanese Satsuma earthenware figure of Kannon (観音), or in earlier times spelled Kwannon and Guanyin in China. "On hold" 
The form of this Kozan signed box is very unusual. The cover has a finely crafted shi-shi as a finial and the bottom portion sits on four legs. There are four medallions on the cover, with two in the form of a butterfly. The condition is good, with some minor wear to the gilt work on the extremities. It dates about 1890 and measures 4" x 3" x 3.75".
