We've only had a few pieces by Ranzan over the years and each was finely detailed, as is this item. The gold and enamel work on this vase was applied with great precision and there are few, if any signs of wear. There are two primary scenes and the reserves are covered with butterflies and geometric patterns. It measures 5.75" x 3" and dates about 1880 - 1890.

The interior of this bowl is meticulously painted in the 1000 butterfly pattern, while the exterior is decorated with the same quality in the milfiore pattern. While both patterns are not uncommon in Satsuma, the detail on this bowl is excellent. Other than some wear to the signature, this bowl is in excellent condition and is a nice example of Seikozan's earlier work. It measures 2 5/8" x 4 3/4" and dates about 1880 - 1890.
