DESCRIPTION: A very fine hand painted Satsuma tea set, complete with teapot, sugar and creamer, all with original knobbed lids. The bodies have a very pleasing, plump ovoid form and the hand painting is exquisitely detailed with gilt and colorful enamels in a wisteria motif. The purple and orange wisteria spill from the lids to the bodies of the serving pieces in a continuous motif. The size of Vase: 12 3/4" High x 8" Dia(most wide in the center). It is one of most unusal Kyoto Satsuma by Nishida. Nishida's name is recorded in Kyoto Satsuma renown name. This is very first piece I have ever seen with this kind glazing other than in Satsuma(master pieces from the world's important collection) book at Kinkozan vase. Japan 19th century height 6.9cm width 5.2cm
Of square form with fine crackle glaze. Decorated in overglaze green, red and gold. Long twisted branches of prunus in full bloom are accented with lower growing grasses and plants. The shoulder has a design of interlocking diamond shapes and leaves. The silver cover is pierced and incised with prunus flowers. Prunus in bloom would make this perfect for springtime use.
