With a rich ko-kutani palette of brink red, blue, and forest green, this small teapot makes a colorful splash! It is decorated with a lion attended by several monks, none of whom have a face. I have actually seen several items, both kutani and imari, decorated in this manner. The piece which is in excellent condition, although missing its reed handle, measures 6" wide by 5 1/2" high - Japan, c. 1880.

The gold and enamel work this pair of vases is heavily applied with great detail. Each vase has two scenes. One with geishas and children under blossoming cherry trees. The other shows children with wise men. The scenes are surrounded with reserves of birds, flowers and geometric patterns. The condition is excellent, except some wear to the signatures. They measure 7.5" x 4.25" and date about 1880.
